Attitude of Gratitude
Earlier in November, we shared our thankfulness for those who volunteer and give all year long through our Most Excellent Way ministry, the Charis House, and the Early Learning Center. This week, we continue our attitude of gratitude with a focus on our Tender Hearts Caring Hands ministry, the Bargain Center, and our MVO Board of Directors.
Our THCH ministry provides food bags to families, financial assistance to those in need, and food and hygiene bags to the homeless. We depend on the generosity of our supporters who keep our food pantry stocked with food, paper products, and hygiene items. Kathleen Schuster, Director of Tender Hearts Caring Hands, has a dedicated team of volunteers who screen applicants, organize donations, pack food bags, record transactions, and more. Her team is small in number, but they are mighty, and the work that they do is outstanding. Thank you to all of the THCH volunteers!
Ronda Arnold – aka Volunteer Extraordinaire – scans documents and helps keep paperwork organized
Sandy & Pam Isbel – husband and wife team who come in weekly to pack food bags
Stephen Soderlind – sorts, organizes, checks expiration dates – whatever we ask, he does it!
Shirley Huffman – tracks statistics and does all things “data” for our program
Angela Fortune – helps by preparing transient bags for distribution
Doris Young – serves as volunteer intake clerk, answering phones and taking applications for those needing financial assistance
Jerald Miller – delivers and counts bread and pastry donations from Publix
5th Sunday Food Drive team – Bernie Alidor, Tom Cacciatore, Dane Allen, Steve Neisen, Randy Wright, Gene Myatt and David Hoyt wrangle the food donations made at each 5th Sunday Food Drive and deliver them to the MVO office
The Bargain Center is a financial resource for the programs of Ministry Village – generating income that is used to support the work done through the Charis House, Most Excellent Way, and the Tender Hearts Caring Hands food pantry. The Bargain Center also provides vital work therapy and training for the Charis House clients. Store Manager Julie Paden credits her team of volunteers for keeping the Bargain Center operating smoothly. Volunteers sort all donated merchandise, tagging and hanging all clothing, and organizing the books and hardgoods into their proper locations throughout the store. Julie wants to thank the following volunteers for their dedication and generous support:
Charlotte Anderson and Audrey Salter have been volunteers with the Bargain Center since it opened in its original location on Davis Highway in June 2013. What faithful volunteers! Thank you all for your dedication to the Bargain Center’s mission.
Ministry Village at Olive Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors, a voluntary group of individuals who provide leadership and oversight for Ministry Village at Olive, meets regularly to stay engaged in our ministry and keep our vision moving forward. Our board currently consists of 11 members, led by Board Chairman Dr. Stephen Newsome, but we have had many board members throughout the years who have been vital in steering MVO and providing Godly direction. We are deeply grateful to every board member who has served in our ministry. Current board members include:
Dr. Larry Morris
Bobby Price, Jr.
Dr. Ted Traylor was the visionary who led Olive Baptist Church to create Ministry Village at Olive, which was incorporated in 2008 as a nonprofit organization. Pastor Traylor serves as a nonvoting member of the MVO Board of Directors, and the members of the board work alongside him to help fulfill the vision God has given him.
We are thankful for the guidance, prayerful focus, and unwavering support each of our board members provides to our organization. We ask that you pray for each of them, thanking God for bringing them to us so they can help lead us to impact our community for the Lord.
