Introducing MVO’s New Executive Director

 In General, Ministry Village

The Board of Directors at Ministry Village at Olive is pleased to announce Mr. Drayton Smith as the new Executive Director of Ministry Village.

A native of Escambia County, Drayton grew up in the Cantonment area and currently lives in Molino. As a young adult, Drayton worked in a variety of hard-labor jobs – doing machinist, construction, and millwright work – but he always felt as if the Lord had something else planned for him. “After surrendering to ministry, I served as a bi-vocational pastor, working fulltime at NAS Pensacola, while also attending the Baptist College of Florida to earn my Associate of Divinity degree,” explains Drayton. After taking a full-time ministerial position, Drayton decided to work toward a Bachelor of Science degree, and eventually went on to earn a Master of Theology degree.

“I have had a passion for missions for many years, taking and leading many trips to different places around the globe. But the term ‘missions’ is often misunderstood. It doesn’t always mean you have to go to another country. The Pensacola area is a huge mission field, and has become a passion for me. To help those struggling from abuse and neglect – to help the addicted and those who are down and out – those are the people groups I want to strive to reach. And that doesn’t mean just helping the homeless – there are many men and women from all walks of life who are struggling more than ever. They need help too.”

Drayton’s laser-focus on helping to lift others out of troubled situations was one of the things that made him stand out to the MVO board members in their search for a new Executive Director. “When Drayton met with the Board, we could sense his passion for serving others and the community,” said Stephen Newsome, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Ministry Village. “I believe Drayton’s focus on building and cultivating relationships will resonate throughout Ministry Village and our community for years to come.”

In next week’s blog, Drayton will share why he is excited about the work he can pursue through Ministry Village and his outlook for the ministry in Northwest Florida in the coming years.
