The Most Excellent Way is LOVE
The Most Excellent Way (MEW) is a loving group of men and women affected directly or indirectly by drugs, alcohol or other life-dominating sin. MEW utilizes Biblical principles to overcome the guilt, frustration, hopelessness, fear and shame associated with addictive behavior. MEW believes that through meetings, attendees will grow in their faith in Christ, becoming healthy, joy-filled and productive children of God with the support of others who understand what each person has lived through. 1 Corinthians 12:31 says “Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.” Jesus can heal the hurting and addicted.
The Most Excellent Way (MEW) began as a weekly prayer meeting in San Diego, CA in 1986. MEW was started as a way to restore confidence to the addicted. By using the Word of God and Its guiding principles, MEW helps people overcome the guilt, frustration, hopelessness, fear and shame associated with destructive lifestyles. As the Holy Spirit moved, other churches and ministries looked to MEW for guidance. The Most Excellent Way is now a worldwide ministry meeting in churches, rescue missions, rehab facilities, jails and prisons throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada and many other countries.
The local meetings of Most Excellent Way at Olive Baptist Church began in 1993. An average of 2,400 people meet each year through the Ministry Village MEW meetings. Tens of thousands of people over the years have attended these meetings at Olive, and many other local MEW meetings were born from the one at Olive .
If you’ve ever attended a meeting of the Most Excellent Way at Olive, you’ve probably read or recited some portion of their opening statement. Most MEW meetings begin with those in attendance introducing themselves and then reading a line or two from the opening statement – a way to focus on the purpose of the meeting – a reminder of why each person is there that night. The opening statements are listed below.
