Employee Spotlight – Sarah Perez

Every organization needs someone to keep the budgets straight and make sure the team is working in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. At Ministry Village at Olive, that person is Sarah Perez, who brings a knack for details and a servant’s heart.

Sarah with some culinary creations

In 2018, Sarah began working part-time at Olive Baptist Church in Olive’s kitchen. With a list of Associate of Applied Science degrees in Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastry, and Food & Hospitality, Sarah has a passion for baking and especially for making desserts. Originally from Texas, Sarah has worked in the kitchen at a variety of places including hotels, restaurants, school cafeterias, and hospitals. She was saved in March 2018 and baptized at Olive Baptist on Easter Sunday 2018. Working for Chef Bob in Olive’s kitchen gave her an opportunity to use her culinary skills while working in a Christian environment. She began hearing about the work done by Ministry Village at Olive and thought she would love to one day be involved if given the opportunity.

Describing herself as a life-long student, Sarah loves to learn new things. With an eye for detail and a love of math, she had previously helped her parents with the budgeting and bill-paying process when she was at home in Texas. She enrolled at Pensacola Christian College, and in May 2020, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business with an accounting concentration. Olive’s administration took note of her skills beyond cooking and asked if she would like to work full-time, splitting her hours part-time with the OBC Kitchen and part-time at Ministry Village. She was thrilled with the opportunity, and joined MVO in July 2020 as the Financial Administrator.

Sarah and her husband Nathaniel

“I love what MVO stands for, and the things we get to do in our community,” says Sarah. “I work with such a fun and uplifting group of people. I’m happy to be able to handle the administrative side of the organization so they can focus on ministering to those in need.” Sarah especially loves the variety she finds in her work – from data entry, to bookkeeping, billpaying, cutting checks and doing journal entries. “It’s fun to me, though I’m no expert.” Because of her love of learning, Sarah is studying for her Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification, and is in the process of enrolling for a Master’s degree. Oh, and in her spare time, she is learning to grow jalapeños and tomatoes, and would also love to someday learn to play the violin. Sarah is married to Nathaniel Anderson, and has a 12 year old pitbull/lab mix named Bexar (or Bear) who still lives in Texas with her parents.

Thank you, Sarah, for the work you do! You feed hearts (and stomachs!) with your culinary skills, and you keep the MVO ministry rolling with your number magic! We are thrilled to have you on the MVO team, and appreciate you sharing your tender heart and skilled servant’s hands with us!
