A Bounty of Thankfulness at MVO

In General, Ministry Village, Ministry Village Early Learning Center, Tender Hearts Caring Hands

Last week, we expressed our appreciation to our volunteers and supporters who work with our Charis House ministry, Most Excellent Way, and the Ministry Village Bargain Center. This week, we continue our attitude of gratitude by spotlighting those who work in the other programs of our ministry, as well as the people who lead and guide our work and service to the community.

Ministry Village Early Learning Center

ELC Director Kristi Zagar in action with one of the ELC classes

The ELC would like to thank our ELC parents and families for trusting us with your children. We do not take that for granted. We are thankful for each of our ELC teachers and assistants, who love and guide our students every day. And, we are thankful for each of our ELC students for helping to make our days exciting and fulfilling, and letting us do what we love – help children grow and learn as we share Jesus with our community!

Teaching preschool through a pandemic has been a challenge, to say the least. But we at Ministry Village are so thankful for our ELC Director Kristi Zagar and Assistant Director Paige Morton, and their leadership, faithfulness, and determination throughout this time. Kristi Zagar wishes to thank her VPK staff who are not afraid to have fun; the perseverance of her teachers in the three-year-old rooms; the new beginnings of her two-year-old staff members; the love displayed every day by the toddler staff; and an infant team that adds a little cray-cray to the day. Mrs. Kristi also has special thanks for Halie Lowery and Paige Morton. “I am thankful for Halie Lowery who always brings joy to the workplace and does her best in anything she does. I am also thankful to Paige Morton for holding my arms up when I am too weak to hold them up myself. And, finally, I am thankful to God for allowing me to serve Him in this capacity.”

Tender Hearts Caring Hands

The 5th Sunday Food Drive Team

Our THCH ministry provides food bags to families, financial assistance to those in need, and food and hygiene bags to the homeless. We depend on the generosity of our supporters who keep our food pantry stocked with food, paper products, and hygiene items. Kathleen Schuster, Director of Tender Hearts Caring Hands, has a dedicated team of volunteers who screen applicants, organize donations, pack food bags, record transactions, and more. Her team is small in number, but they are mighty, and the work that they do is outstanding. Thank you to all of the THCH volunteers – Ronda Arnold, Sandy & Pam Isbel, Stephen Soderlind, Shirley Huffman, Angela Fortune, Doris Young, Jerald Miller, Tammy Davis and our 5th Sunday Food Drive teamBernie Alidor, Dane Allen, Steve Neisen, Randy Wright, Gene Myatt and David Hoyt.

MVO Board of Directors

Some of our MVO Board Members at the 2021 Clay Shoot

Our Board of Directors, a voluntary group of individuals who provide leadership and oversight for Ministry Village at Olive, meets regularly to stay engaged in our ministry and keep our vision moving forward. Our board currently consists of 11 members, led by Board Chairman Dr. Stephen Newsome. Current board members include: Patricia Clay, Kathy Clements, Jared Gann, Clint Holmes, Terrell Kelly, Dr. Larry Morris, Justin Tyner, Bobby Price, Jr., Jaime Principe, and Mitch White.

In addition to these board members, we are fortunate to have the guidance of Dr. Ted Traylor on our board. Dr. Traylor was the visionary who led Olive Baptist Church to create Ministry Village at Olive, which was incorporated in 2008 as a nonprofit organization. Pastor Traylor serves as a nonvoting member of the MVO Board of Directors, and the members of the board work alongside him to help fulfill the vision God has given him.

We are thankful for the guidance, prayerful focus, and unwavering support each of our board members provides to our organization. We ask that you pray for each of them, thanking God for bringing them to us so they can lead us to impact our community for the Lord.

MVO Special Thanks to Jeremy Portmann

The Portmanns – Jeremy, Tonya, Cooper & Carter

We would not have made such great strides in our mission at MVO in recent years without the leadership of Jeremy Portmann, our Executive Director since 2019. Jeremy’s love for the Lord, his willingness to work in the trenches with each of us, and his desire to reach our community for Christ served as the calm in the storm that we needed throughout the changing climate that has been ministry and community service during the Covid-19 pandemic. Jeremy recently transitioned to a new position at Olive Baptist Church, but his leadership through these uncertain times made a long-lasting difference in each of our ministries. The team at Ministry Village is thankful God sent him to serve with us through Ministry Village for these past 2 years.

All of us at Ministry Village at Olive wish to thank you – our givers, our do-ers, our prayer warriors – for your love and support. We thank God for you every day of the year.

We have the opportunity to reach our neighbors – when life has been hard + unfair – and give them real help while showing them real love from JESUS.

Because HE IS WHY we do what we do.

And YOU ARE HOW we do what we do.

Thank you.

The mission of Ministry Village at Olive is to put the words of Jesus into action throughout our community – “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40, NIV) If you are looking for a place to demonstrate kindness to others for the glory of God, give us a call. We have opportunities through the Bargain Center; at our Tender Hearts Caring Hands benevolence program and food pantry; through the Most Excellent Way addiction support groups; at the Charis House; and at the Ministry Village Early Learning Center.
