It’s Now Or Never! The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Raises Funds for Ministry Village at Olive.

In charis house, General, Ministry Village

Dust off your Blue-Suede Shoes and get ready to Shake, Rattle and Roll! at the Ultimate Elvis Tribute with Al Joslin on Friday, June 28 at 7 PM at the Rex Theatre in Downtown Pensacola. Multi-award winning Elvis performer Al Joslin will perform your favorite Elvis hits from every era in an electrifying and memorable show.

Joslin, a Pace High graduate – Class of 2000, is returning for this hometown concert which is a fundraiser for the Charis House, one of the programs of Ministry Village at Olive. This is Joslin’s second fundraiser for Ministry Village. His 2018 concert sold out, with audiences eager for more.

Joslin played college football before becoming the Ultimate Elvis.

Al Joslin grew up in the Florida Panhandle, playing high school football and singing in the church choir at Olive Baptist Church. When he was 17, a family vacation to Graceland educated him on the King of Rock ‘n Roll and inspired him to learn more about Elvis and his music. He remembers always singing Elvis music around the campus at Mississippi College, even on the football field, and his friends took notice. It was during his senior year that someone told him about a nearby Elvis contest. Al decided to enter, and after placing 3rd, he knew that Elvis would be a part of his future. After graduating with a Bachelors degree in psychology, Joslin began performing Elvis tribute shows full of energy and passion whenever he had a chance.

“I felt that I connected with the voice of Elvis well, being able to capture a lot of his sound, but I wasn’t always sure if I could capture his whole persona on stage,” says Al. “No one can capture everything he had, but over the years – through a lot of watching him and a lot of performing – I’ve improved with portraying the look and stage mannerisms. But Elvis’s voice is what draws me in, and that’s still the main thing I focus on as an Elvis Tribute Artist.” Joslin has always loved music, but when he discovered Elvis, he was mesmerized. “There was something special about the way he sang and performed that really touched me more than other music had. There was so much feeling and passion in his voice. He sang so many styles – and sang all of them so well. Rock and roll, gospel, blues, country, ballads – no matter what he sang, he made you believe it.” Joslin also admired the way Elvis treated people, especially his fans. “He brought a lot of joy to so many people.”

Joslin was mesmerized with how well Elvis treated people and connected with his fans.

Al has visited 38 States across America and 34 countries across the world, and performed in many of them. Most recently he has performed shows in Las Vegas, Chicago, Memphis, Nashville, Orlando, Dallas, Houston and Phoenix. In March 2019, he took Elvis overseas, performing eight shows in Finland. “That has been my most memorable performance so far. Finland is a beautiful country. The people there are so friendly, and they love Elvis.”

When someone from Ministry Village at Olive approached Al in 2018 about performing at a fundraiser, he jumped at the chance. “It’s important to me to help programs like the Charis House. Helping women that are hurting receive the encouragement and hope that Christ offers to them, so they can become free of whatever addiction is keeping them in bondage, is important work. I’m happy to be a part of that.”

“Al’s concert last year was an out of the box fundraising idea for Ministry Village,” remembers Stan Lollar, former Executive Director of Ministry Village. “We knew it would appeal to locals who knew Al personally, but there were a lot of people who just loved Elvis and wanted to see a great show. The concert provided a unique opportunity to share the story of the Charis House and the work Ministry Village does in our community, and reach people that might not otherwise hear about it. The Rex is a perfect venue for an event like this with its community history and character, and having the place sell out was fantastic.”

Bob Price, Jr., Chairman of the Ministry Village at Olive Board of Directors, agrees. “Last year’s concert was a fun way to spread the word about Ministry Village, and it generated donations that we were able to immediately use to help change lives right here in Pensacola. Everyone walked away from last year’s event excited and inspired, so it seemed like a great idea to bring Al back for another show.”

Joslin connects with Elvis’s voice and has worked over the years to capture his stage persona.

For his part, Al hopes that everyone who attends will walk away knowing more about Ministry Village and having a greater appreciation of Elvis and his music. Ultimately, he just wants everyone to have a great time. “I will always be a fan of Elvis first and foremost…and then a performer. Everything I do as an Elvis Tribute Artist is out of respect and admiration for him. I hope the audience feels I represented him well. Most of all, I want to bring glory to God in all that I do.”
