New Year…New Bargains

In Bargain Center, Ministry Village, The Charis House

The Ministry Village Bargain Center is an exciting place to be in 2019. With a new store manager and an exciting array of gently used items as well as brand new merchandise, there’s a bargain for everybody!

Bargain Center Store Manager Brenda Hudgens

Brenda Hudgens became the new store manager at the Bargain Center in February. A Pensacola native, Brenda moved around a lot as a child – her dad was a 26-year Army veteran. But in 1979, her family moved back to Milton, and Brenda has made the area her home ever since. Brenda is a member of First Baptist Church in Milton and shares life with her husband and their 6 dogs. After 18 years with Wendy’s working as a store manager and then district manager, Brenda worked at Linens N Things and then as a job coach, specializing in finding suitable jobs for people with disabilities. She later became the store manager at the Waterfront Thrift Store in Crestview where she worked for 8 years before family obligations temporarily moved her and her husband to Mississippi.

Once she returned home to Milton, the Ministry Village Bargain Center called, asking if she would be interested in returning to the world of thrift store retail. Brenda always enjoyed working in “the thrift store biz” as she calls it, and was eager to join the team at Ministry Village. She has been working at the store since October and is excited about serving as the new store manager. “I love meeting all of the customers, and just the excitement of this type of store,” said Brenda. “My favorite part is working alongside the ladies of the Charis House – watching them grow and develop into strong Christian women. It just makes my heart full.”

Brenda is excited about all of the potential she sees at the Bargain Center, and is already working hard to grow sales, which she knows will provide more funding for the work of Ministry Village’s programs. “It is a blessing to have this job and do this work in our community.”

Brand new bedroom furniture is available at the Bargain Center.

Sales of brand new furniture are one area Brenda hopes to grow at the Bargain Center. During 2018, the Bargain Center began carrying an assortment of new furniture pieces, offering its customers the option of both donated items and modestly priced new merchandise. The response from customers has been very positive. Brand new mattresses and bunk beds are available in the store, and customers can also browse a catalog of bedroom, dining room and living room furniture that can be special-ordered directly from Dreamline Manufacturing.

Bunkbeds are a great seller at the Bargain Center.

Dreamline of Cabot, Arkansas, is a Christian-family owned and operated company with a rich business history who stands behind their products. The Ministry Village Bargain Center is proud to offer these products to their customers.

Every new year brings with it new challenges and new opportunities. If finding great furniture deals is one of the challenges on your list this year, don’t overlook the Ministry Village Bargain Center! And say, “Hi!” to Brenda when you stop by – she’d love to meet you!
